i2Coalition Leading Global to Local Infrastructure Discussion at IGF 2015 In Brazil
Colleagues,
I am on the ground in Joäo Pessoa, Brazil attending IGF 2015, the 10th anniversary of the Internet Governance Forum. The themes of this 10th year are “Empowering Sustainable Development” and “Connecting The Next Billion”. i2Coalition is here to help facilitate conversations on both, as part of our commitment to make sure that Internet’s infrastructure survives and thrives.
The Internet Society’s President & CEO Kathy Brown did a great job outlining why we are here in Brazil this week in her blog post On My Way To IGF 2015. She calls connecting the unconnected and ensuring trust “the work of our time”. I agree, and I’m here to contribute to that work.
i2Coalition will be running a workshop this Thursday about how to build Internet infrastructure in developing regions. Here are details:
WS 35 Across The Globe: Local Infrastructure is Local Development
Thursday 12 November, IGF Day 3
16.00-17.30
Room: Workshop Room 7, Conference venue
We expect to be able to facilitate a dialogue about how to foster Internet innovation worldwide through the development of infrastructure. We’ll move past what it takes to set up an IXP, and delve into the requirements of building data centers, ISPs and Internet related businesses that utilize the data centers and ISPs. We’ll then discuss the economic affects on the local economy of developing its own Internet infrastructures. It should be an informative and productive workshop!
I will also be a participant or panelist in three other sessions this week. On Monday (today) I will be part of a discussion on how we are building and mitigating best practices on SPAM and UCE. On Tuesday, there is an engaging and interesting roundtable conversion on privacy and security online. On Thursday, the same day as the i2Coalition workshop on infrastructure, I will be co-moderating a workshop on Universal Acceptance, as co-chair of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG).
Each of these panels or workshop will give an opportunity for i2Coalition to help drive forward important conversations about how we connect the unconnected and ensure trust. I am excited to be here to carry the torch for our organization on these important matters!
