The i2Coalition and eco – Association of the Internet Industry invite you to an update on the transfer of personal data and data protection on both sides of the Atlantic. Anyone wishing to transfer personal data from the EU to the US or other third countries must rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), especially since the end of the EU/US Privacy Shield, in order not to risk a violation of data protection law.
With the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), numerous countries outside the EU do not have compatible data protection rules, including the US. Last summer, the European Court of Justice stated this explicitly, overturning the EU/US Privacy Shield which allowed for the transfer of personal data from EU countries to the US.
European companies with branches in the US and other countries or that wanted to use foreign service providers have been uncertain about how to meet their obligations under GDPR, and what the future holds specifically for transatlantic data transfers.
In a new online webinar on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET / 15:00 – 16:00 UTC, the i2Coalition and eco will explain the new Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the EU Commission, which are now in practice the main legal basis for international data transfers. The participants will also discuss intergovernmental policy discussions about the future of data transfers between the US and EU that may not need to rely on the SCCs. Join this Transatlantic Dialogue to discuss the application of the new Standard Contractual Clauses and the status of policy development on the protection of personal data on both sides of the Atlantic.
