i2Coalition Launches Best Practices Initiative
Today marks the second annual Internet Education Day on Capitol Hill. The i2Coalition is excited to go back to Washington, D.C. to continue our goal to educate elected leaders about how the Internet works. In line with our educational efforts, we are announcing a new important project that is critical to the Internet infrastructure industry and the future of the Internet: our Best Practices Initiative.
The Internet is under constant attack from cybercrimes like piracy, child pornography, and fraud to just name a few. The Internet infrastructure industry is at the forefront in fighting crime on the Internet and continues to create standards to protect Internet users from exploitation. As the unified voice for the Internet infrastructure industry, the i2Coalition is uniquely positioned to communicate the best practices developed by our industry and how they can be universally applied. The top goal of our Best Practices Initiative is to showcase how the global Internet infrastructure community is actively working on a continuous basis to make the Internet a better place than it was the day before.
The objective for our Best Practices Initiative is to develop a wide framework focusing on partnering and coordinating with other organizations that center around building a better, safer Internet. We plan to underscore the work of these various multi-stakeholder groups in strengthening safety on the Internet to ensure further global growth.
During our Internet Education Day event today at 2pm, we’re looking forward to hearing from speaker Cindy Southworth, Vice President of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Cindy has a particular understanding of how to strengthen safety standards and privacy for victims online serving as the head of communications and technology. Cindy is a member of the Anti-Spyware Coalition and co-Chair of the Technology Committee of the National Taskforce To End Sexual And Domestic Violence Against Women.
In addition to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, we are working with a number of other organizations through our Best Practices Initiative. Earlier this month, the i2Coalition signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) aimed at addressing messaging abuse, mobile exploitation and spam content. Continued collaboration with these organizations is a critical step towards identifying and sharing best practices throughout the Internet.
The i2Coalition’s Best Practices Initiative will serve as a clearing house for our industry and the Internet. As we continue to create a broader network of allies to help fight online crime and increase privacy, we can help develop a safer Internet for all its users for future innovation and ongoing growth.
