i2Coalition Statement on President Obama’s Net Neutrality Proposal
The Internet Infrastructure Coalition supports those that make up the nuts and bolts of the Internet. Through our members and an open Internet, the digital economy has been able to thrive. Any regulation that is negotiated needs to ensure that the open nature of the Internet is not compromised. As we stated when we submitted comments to the FCC on this issue, the Internet thrives when a level playing field allows innovation and minimal barriers are in place that would discourage individual entrepreneurs, small businesses and global companies to compete. We like Title II; however, we are concerned that classifying broadband service under Title II will inadvertently lead to regulation of commercial business to business Internet services. i2Coalition believes that the Commission should simply embrace and apply its Title II authority, and then require unbundling and a separate offer of the transmission component by returning to Open Access.
