It’s time to talk about what i2Coalition and The Secure Domain Organization can do about better abuse reporting.
Specifically:
- Registrar obligations under 2013 RAA- what’s in the contract vs. what are the myths?
- How do we improve the landscape / ecosystem?
- How do we facilitate the creation of tools for better abuse reporting?
Internet infrastructure providers have a unique role to play in preventing and stopping cybercrime perpetrated through the DNS. However, registrars, registries, and hosting companies seeking to mitigate domain name abuse often receive complaints that lack sufficient information to adequately investigate and ultimately resolve a situation. As a result of this conundrum, many have called for uniform abuse reporting through the use of a standardized complaint form.
We will be holding an Anti-Abuse session at ICANN 54 in Dublin in conjunction with the Secure Domain Foundation. The workshop will be held in the The Convention Centre Dublin ECOCEM, 1300-1600 Sunday, October 18th. Accordingly, this session will provide a closed-door venue for registrars, registries, and hosting companies to exchange ideas on the topic. Ultimately, this session will seek to define domain name abuse and achieve consensus on the types of actionable information that should be included in abuse complaints and to whom they should be directed.
Moreover, there will be a focus on building pathways to collaboration. There are many organizations and companies working on solutions to improve abuse reporting standards. The primary goal of the workshop will be to connect these efforts, with the idea that we accomplish more together than apart.
