We’re Restructuring Our Working Groups
We’ve got big plans for 2016 and we’re starting with a restructuring of our working groups. The biggest changes are to our very successful, but large, Best Practices Working Group. Our approach to developing best practices encapsulates three areas, always with the goal of striking the right balance between security, safety and privacy: working with experts and industry professionals; identifying like-minded partners; and fostering the growth of the Internet economy. We’re looking for current and new members to help us in tackling these issues and be one of our experts. Check out the working groups below and join the i2Coalition using the form at the bottom of this page.
Starting this month, the Best Practices Working Group will cease to meet as a large group on a monthly basis, only meeting quarterly. Instead, we have two new monthly sub-groups (Internet Safety Working Group and Technical Outreach Working Group) which will join our Gender Diversity and Equity Initiative in meeting monthly to tackle some of the industry’s biggest challenges. Splitting the Best Practices monthly focus gives our working group more facetime for directly engaging the industry and the issues.
GDEI (Gender Diversity & Equity Initiative)
The Gender Diversity & Equity Initiative is a best practices working group focused on the promotion of gender diversity and equality within the internet industry. Core values include advocacy, networking, and volunteering. Group participants strive for an equal and diverse working environment and align with the ideals outlined in our forthcoming Women in Technology: An Infrastructure Community Dialogue white paper.
ISWG (Internet Safety Working Group)
The Internet Safety Working Group (ISWG) will leverage our member’s expertise and connections to create a strategic approach to increase the effectiveness of abuse reporting, and a number of other targets.
This working group plans to engage groups such as:
- M3AAWG(Messaging Malware Mobile AntiÂ-Abuse Working Group)
- NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children)
- INHOPE
- APWG (Anti-Phishing Working Group)
- LEA (Law Enforcement Agencies)
- Issues to be the focus of the AAWG:
- Abuse Reporting
- Spam Best Practices
- Missing and Exploited Children Outreach
- Leverage NCMEC and INHOPE to participate in the Online Safety Day in February.
- DDoS Best Practices
- Fake Pharma Best Practices
The i2Coalition also provides an abuse reporting mail list for members and industry leaders to discuss abuse reporting issues. This list will be engaged by the ISWG. All are welcome to join, participate and contribute to these.
TOWG (Technical Outreach Working Group)
The Technical Outreach Working Group (TOWG) will leverage our members and other organizations to approach Best Practice solutions for Technical Outreach in the Internet Infrastructure Industry.
This working group plans to engage groups such as:
- UASG
- NIST
- DNA
- ISPCP
- Issues to be the focus of TOWG
- IPV4 Exhaustion
- IPV6 Adoption
- DNSSEC/DANE
- Name Collisions
- Universal Acceptance
- Privacy Best Practices
- Security Best Practices
- Transparency
Our Policy Working Group and i’s sub-group, Internet Governance will also continue to do the good work they have done over the last three years, giving input on legislation and the multi-stakeholder process.
The i2Coalition Public Policy Working Group is responsible for determining the specific responses for the i2Coalition in regards to global policy issues that are important to the Internet’s infrastructure. Recent achievements center around Net Neutrality and surveillance reform, achieved through engagement with the FCC and on support of the USA FREEDOM Act in the U.S., respectively.
The Internet Governance Working Group coordinates i2Coalition’s engagement with the multi-stakeholder communities that manage the global root, and how the Internet is managed in the global landscape. The Working Group coordinates the i2Coalition’s engagement with ICANN as well as in other Internet Governance forums.
