i2Coalition Collaborates with M3AAWG
The following is commentary from i2Coalition Board Member Richard Feller of Hedgehog Hosting.
The i2Coalition and its members are committed to establishing a Best Practices Initiative to create a safer, more secure Internet. As part of our Best Practices Initiative, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) earlier this year.
M3AAWG is a global organization committed to addressing messaging abuse on the Internet and mobile devices. Its members are from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. M3AAWG works through several solutions to address messaging abuse, including technology, public policy, and collaborating with others in the industry.
It’s through industry collaboration that the i2Coalition and M3AAWG have developed a working relationship for highlighting best practices to fight message abuse. In our Memorandum of Understanding, we have identified a number of common goals:
- Assisting one-another in the deliberation in how to address the problem of messaging abuse and hosted abuse-related infrastructure such as payload sites, botnet C&C points, and other related issues originating in, or related to the web hosting and cloud space
- Working on how to address the problem of outbound spam coming from resolvers originating in the web hosting and cloud space
- Finding ways to enhance and showcase efforts by the organizations to do the work necessary to protect end-users and tackle botnets, online abuse and mobile spam
This accord between the i2Coalition and M3AAWG is a solid step towards cementing our common goals of reducing spam, fighting messaging abuse, and building a safe Internet for its users. Learn more about our Best Practices Initiative by emailing [email protected].
