i2Coalition Member Spotlight: BforeAI
Taking a core element from a classic sci-fi film and making it a reality, BforeAI brings predictive cybersecurity into the fight against the online bad guys. In moving cybersecurity from a defensive to a pre-emptive posture, they beat the “Precogs” from Minority Report by 30 years! We connected with BforeAI CEO Luigi Lenguito to discuss proactive cybersecurity, the changing nature of the Internet, and the future of the arms race against cyber criminals.
i2Coalition: Can you give us the elevator pitch for BforeAI?
Luigi Lenguito: BforeAI has been created to predict the sources of cyberattacks and stop them before they are able to cause harm. It was born out of a conviction that cybersecurity cannot be only reactive (detect and respond) but also proactive.
To this end, we created PreCrime—a behavioural predictive intelligence—that is capable of identifying the source of an infrastructure attack in a median three weeks before the attack happens, with a guarantee of 99% accuracy.
Thanks to our global partnerships, we are able to isolate such infrastructures from over 80% of Internet traffic in less than five minutes, and take them down over 90% of the time before harmful content becomes visible.
i2Coalition: We love the name “PreCrime”. Could you tell us a little bit more about this service?
LL: PreCrime is our core technology. The Intelligence module is an API connecting existing security systems that upgrades them with foresight to preemptively block communication to future malicious infrastructures, such as exfiltration servers, c2 servers, and so forth.
We see first-hand the impact of our preemptive techniques, as we already avert more than 20 million scam attempts a day. We have also been recently awarded “Cool Vendor for AI in Banking and Financial Services 2024” by Gartner.
i2Coalition: We suspect that most readers will picture your solution in terms of pure website defense. How does the brand-protection version of PreCrime differ from PreCrime Intelligence?
LL: The brand-protection version of PreCrime focuses on safeguarding brand integrity by monitoring and disrupting impersonation attempts, While PreCrime Intelligence integrates with existing security systems to preemptively block threats, the Brand Defense module is an autonomous impersonation monitoring, disruption and takedown system. It helps protect customers, suppliers and employees from phishing, email compromise and credential stealing attacks.
i2Coalition: The AI arms race is well and truly on, as criminals and cybersecurity professionals fight for the upper hand. Where do you think this fight will be in a year’s time?
LL: The challenge we face is that AI systems enable criminals to easily scale their operation with faster, more diverse, and more intense attacks. Many companies, brands, and organizations are not prepared for this leap forward in attack technology. To best counter this change to the threat landscape, we need to arm security practitioners with new tools to combat these ever-more-sophisticated and increasingly malicious machine technologies.
However, we believe that it is not so much about the new technologies themselves, but the sheer volume and velocity of attacks could very well become the core challenge in a year’s time.
i2Coalition: What impact do you think recent geopolitical events have had on your more recent growth?
LL: At this point in our development we are still too small to be affected by macro-trends. However, certainly an increased attention to and understanding of the need for robust cybersecurity measures and the gaps that currently exist between “the way we’ve always done things” and how it is necessary to pivot for where the Internet is going has driven much of our development. The movement away from fully reactive cybersecurity shines a light on our differentiated offering. The clients and companies who get it come to us in response to this changing world and landscape and we believe that an active defense posture, including preemptive blocking is the way forward.
i2Coalition: Why did your team find it important to join the i2Coalition?
LL: We are passionate about the power the Internet gives to humanity and with that passion comes a strong sense of stewardship. Working together with the other members of the internet infrastructure community is a vital piece of performing that stewardship. As we are of use to our clients, we also want to be useful to our fellow community members and understand how to support them in the best way moving forward.
