i2Coalition Signs Digital Due Process ECPA Letter
Today, the Internet Infrastructure Coalition (i2Coalition) joined other groups in signing a letter to members of Congress urging passing this year of a clean ECPA reform bill. In addition to i2Coalition, the signatories of the letter include other trade associations, think tanks, major Internet and communications companies and others. i2Coalition Co-Founder and Board Chair Christian Dawson released the following statement in conjunction with the letter:
“i2Coalition has been pushing for overdue ECPA reform since our inception. The broad spectrum of organizations signing this letter is a reflection of the tremendous support there is for real ECPA reform. The current ECPA law has not been updated since 1986, and technology has advanced leaps and bounds since that time. The law as it stands is inconsistent and threatens the enterprising nature of the Internet and the cloud computing industry. Tech and privacy are coming together with this letter and calling on Congress to pass a clean ECPA reform bill this year.”
