Our Submitted Comments to FTC on Remedial Authority in Privacy and Data Security Matters
The i2Coalition (Internet Infrastructure Coalition) has submitted comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), on Docket ID: FTC-2018-0052 or “The Commission’s remedial authority to deter unfair and deceptive conduct in privacy and data security matters”.
In the submission, the i2Coalition details its support for privacy and data security protections, as well as ongoing concerns about the scalability of agency actions. Specifically, the costs faced by companies in responding to a lawsuit, or the need for administrative actions that are overly broad or highly restrictive.
“Consumer protection and business innovation are not mutually exclusive ideals. We want to see the government work toward dealing with bad actors in a way that doesn’t limit the access, intellectual engagement, and opportunity that is the marque of the Internet,” added i2Coalition Policy Director Monica Sanders.
