i2Coalition 2024 Internet Leadership Award Winners Announced
The i2Coalition 2024 Congressional Fly-In will conclude with our annual Internet Leadership Awards ceremony. This is where we honor members of this community for their contributions in making the Internet a better place. We are pleased to announce this year’s winners, and we look forward to handing them their awards in person during the Fly-In.
Internet Community Leadership Award:
Justin Paine, VP, Global Head of Trust & Safety at Cloudflare
One of the most well-known content delivery network services, CloudFlare also delivers cloud cybersecurity, DDoS mitigation, and domain registration services. Justin Paine is responsible for building Cloudflare’s Trust & Safety team, while also serving as the primary point of contact for law enforcement-related inquiries and US Government Cyber Centers. Along with his responsibilities to Cloudflare and its users, Justin is also a Founding Member and Advisor of the Trust & Safety Professional Association, which supports the global community of professionals who develop and enforce policies that define acceptable content and behavior online.
Internet Entrepreneurship Award:
Michele Neylon, Founder & CEO, Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd
Paul Kelly, Owner, Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd.
Blacknight has grown into Ireland’s premier web hosting provider, through not only staying abreast of the latest technology—but also its legendary customer service. Michele Neylon and Paul Kelly have built a tech company that Ireland can be proud of—one that delights end users, partners, and even regulators.
Lifetime Achievement in Building Internet Infrastructure Award:
Brewster Kahle, Digital Librarian, Internet Archive
Fire up the Wayback Machine! The Internet Archive is the “memory of the Internet”, which requires tremendous technical resources and expertise as well as tremendous amounts of love. The Internet Archive is the brainchild of founder and Digital Librarian Brewster Kahle, whose dedication to universal access to all knowledge has informed his career in technology and entrepreneurship.
Champion of the Internet Award:
Dr. Laurie Locascio, Director of NIST and Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology
Dr. Laurie Locascio Locascio is an interdisciplinary researcher who worked at NIST for 31 years—rising from a research biomedical engineer to lead the agency’s material measurement laboratory. From 2017 to 2022, Locascio served as vice president for research at the University of Maryland College Park and the University of Maryland Baltimore. She also served as a professor in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the A. James Clark School of Engineering with a secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine. In 2021, Locascio was sworn in as the fourth Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and 17th director of NIST. Locascio is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
