i2Coalition Announces July 23rd Webinar: Understanding the Full Scope of Section 230 in the Internet Ecosystem
The i2Coalition is excited to announce a one-hour educational webinar on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 11am-12pm ET/ 15:00-16:00 UTC to build understanding of the importance of Section 230 protections to the entire Internet ecosystem.
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act prohibits treating a vast range of private sector and public Internet providers as a “publisher or speaker” of information that has been posted online by a third-party user. It also shields such providers from liability for decisions to remove objectionable content when such actions are undertaken voluntarily in “good faith.” Organizations rely upon 230 protections in conducting numerous, common, everyday Internet operations, beyond social media postings.
Featuring speakers from the Internet infrastructure industry, higher education, and public and research libraries, the webinar will outline how Section 230 advances safe, responsible, and efficient Internet access and usage for a wide variety of networking environments, including particularly colleges and universities, local library communities, and small and medium-sized businesses.
Panel speakers:
- James Bladel, Vice President of Global Policy, GoDaddy
- Sydney Schneider, Manager, Legal Operations, Rackspace
- Beth Cate, Clinical Associate Professor, Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University
- Greg Cram, Director of Copyright, Permissions and Information Policy, The New York Public Library
